Knowing there is nothing more powerful than collaboration and partnership, the D-backs and University of Phoenix committed their resources to working with Arizona's most respected corporate and education partners on a series of Teaming Up for Education programs to demonstrate both organization's comprehensive investment in improving education outcomes for students throughout the state.

Through the D-backs $150,000 Back-To-School Challenge, presented by the University of Phoenix, the D-backs provide educational grants all around the state of Arizona, funding projects ranging in need from school improvements to innovative educational programs. Each winter D-backs players, coaches and executives interact with more than 600 children in need at the team's annual Winter Classic presented by University of Phoenix. More than 100 employees from University of Phoenix and the D-backs assist children in selecting a new pair of shoes and participating in a variety of activities to include the University of Phoenix Reading Corner, where each child receives two new books, as well as music, crafts, a friendly game of baseball and a visit from Santa. The D-backs and CenturyLink are proud to present the All-Star Teachers Recognition Program to recognize outstanding Arizona educators. Fans are invited to submit an essay (500 words or less) about an educator that has made a difference. Five winning educators will be recognized before D-backs games this season and each will receive $2,000 courtesy of CenturyLink. Baxter and musical mascot Bobby Freeman entertain children at various schools throughout Arizona with a baseball-themed act that infuses relevant messages into a delightful musical variety show designed to communicate messages of courage, character, friendship and social responsibility. Since 2008, the D-backs and the Rodel Foundation of Arizona have hosted and celebrated the contributions of more than 750 of Arizona's best teachers and principals at games at Chase Field. More than 100,000 elementary school children have participated in the Math Achievement Club by Rodel (Mac-Ro) to raise the math achievement of students, which all has been funded by a $100,000 Grand Slam Award grant from the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation in 2008.
The D-backs host students from schools throughout the state for an educational trip to Chase Field each spring that includes lessons in sciences, math, nutrition and physical education. All lessons on the field trips are approved to meet academic standards set forth by the Arizona Department of Education and have included experts from local television weather stations, Arizona Science Center and Phoenix Zoo in the past. The cost of the field trip is $7 per student and includes two tickets to a D-backs game.
The D-backs provide opportunities for schools from throughout the state to host family nights at Chase Field each season and purchase tickets at discounted group-rate prices. Most schools use family night games as fundraising opportunities, as the D-backs contribute $5 from each ticket sale back to the school. More than $15,000 is donated back to school fundraisers each season.
The D-backs provide opportunities for high school baseball teams to play Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) sanctioned games at Chase Field or Salt River Fields at Talking Stick each season while also allowing student-athletes to raise money for their baseball programs. The D-backs contribute money back from each ticket sold through group sales fundraisers conducted by high school baseball programs.
Middle and high school band and choir programs can earn the chance to perform prior to a game at Chase Field while also selling tickets to generate funds for their traveling events each year through the D-backs' Band and Choir Nights.
The D-backs offer specially-priced tickets and free bus parking to after-school and educational summer camps throughout Arizona to a mid-day game each summer at Chase Field.
The Arizona Diamondbacks are honored to work with United Blood Services, sponsoring their High School Challenge Program and supporting their Save Our Summer Blood Drive, Community Awareness Day and other initiatives. With 182 high schools holding blood drives during the 2009-2010 school year, the UBS High School Challenge Program saw nearly an astonishing 25,0000 blood donations made at high school blood drives last year. Participating high schools who contributed in the greatest of ways are honored each year at Chase Field, during a ceremony on the field prior to a game.
