Jackie Robinson Day

Few people have meant more to the game of baseball - and America for that matter - than Jackie Robinson. By breaking baseball's color barrier with his historic debut on April 15, 1947, the Brooklyn Dodgers Hall of Famer helped pave the way for equal rights for every United States citizen. Our goal is to continue to recognize this momentous event that changed the social fabric of America. Every year on April 15th, our game honors Jackie's legacy by celebrating his inspiring life, values and accomplishments.

Roberto Clemente Award

Not long after recording his 3,000th career hit, Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente died in a plane crash while delivering aid to earthquake victims in Nicaragua. Clemente exemplified baseball's unique responsibility as a social institution and its ability to improve people's lives. MLB and the D-backs celebrate Clemente's dedication to public service while recognizing players' efforts to give back to their communities. Roberto Clemente Day was established in 2002 to increase awareness of the Roberto Clemente Award presented by Chevy, and particularly to the local recipients and their efforts in the community.
