Blackouts FAQ

  1. What is MLB.com's blackout policy?

    1. United States (Including the Territories of Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands) and Canada
      1. Regular Season Local Live Blackout:

All live games on MLB.TV and available through MLB.com At Bat are subject to local blackouts. Such live games will be blacked out in each applicable Club's home television territory, regardless of whether that Club is playing at home or away. If a game is blacked out in an area, it is not available for live game viewing. If you are an MLB.TV subscriber and not located within either Club's home television territory, the applicable game will be available live and as an archived game as soon as possible after the conclusion of the game. If you are an MLB.TV subscriber within either Club's home television territory, the applicable game will be available as an archived game approximately 90 minutes after the conclusion of the game.

        In addition, note:
        • These blackout restrictions apply regardless of whether a Club is home or away and regardless of whether or not a game is televised in a Club's home television territory.
        • All live Toronto Blue Jays games are blacked out throughout the entire country of Canada.
        • Additional teams may also be subject to blackout in parts of Canada based on their region.
        • All live games will be blacked out in the U.S. territories of Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands during the MLB regular season.
      2. Regular Season Weekend U.S. National Live Blackout:

Due to Major League Baseball exclusivities, live national broadcasts of Major League Baseball events, such as the All-Star Game, and select live national broadcasts of MLB games occurring each Saturday with a scheduled start time after 1:10 PM ET or before 8:00 PM ET and select live national broadcasts of MLB games occurring each Sunday with a scheduled start time after 1:00 PM ET will be blacked out in the United States (including the territories of Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands). In addition, in the event of circumstances that produce a programming conflict or change in schedule, the above blackout windows may be subject to change. If you are an MLB.TV Premium subscriber outside of the United States, each of these games will be available as an archived game as soon as possible after the conclusion of the applicable game. If you are an MLB.TV Premium Subscriber within the United States or an MLB.TV subscriber in any territory, each of these games will be available as an archived game approximately 90 minutes after the conclusion of the applicable game.

      3. Regular Season Play-In Game:

Live Audio of such games is available as part of any MLB.TV subscription, as part of the MLB.com Gameday Audio subscription and may be available as part of certain other of our subscription services, including MLB.com Gameday Audio.

      4. MLB.TV Postseason Live Blackout:

      5. Postseason.TV:

Subscribers to the Postseason.TV subscription service, available only during the MLB Postseason, will be able to view live alternative video feeds (excluding the broadcast feed) from MLB Postseason games without blackout restrictions.

    2. OUTSIDE THE U.S. AND CANADA
      1. Regular Season and Postseason Live Blackout:

        No blackout restrictions apply.

  2. I am receiving a blackout message. How can I find out what teams I should be blacked out from watching live?

To find out which local teams you are blacked out from viewing live, enter the zip code of the location you are viewing from here. After pressing Go a window will pop up, listing the teams you cannot view live (either Home or Away). For additional information on MLB.TV's blackout policy, including national and international blackouts, click here.

  3. I have been Blacked Out of a game but I am in a location that should not be blocked from viewing either of the teams playing, and the game is not being nationally televised. How can I watch this game?

If you are traveling and are accessing the Internet through a VPN connection (or other secure network connection), you might be getting a blackout message because the host IP Address for the VPN is within the restricted range for the game that you are trying to access. In this case, we suggest that you try the following: log off of the VPN connection (or other secure network connection) and access the Internet through a local connection. You should also disable any proxies that you are using. If you feel that you are still being blacked out incorrectly, please update your Payment Profile.

If that does not work or apply, power cycle your modem and/or router. To do this, unplug your modem, as well as any wired or wireless router you are using, for about 10 seconds. Then re-plug the device(s). Wait a few minutes as your Internet connection resets and, then, try to view the game again. If you believe you are still incorrectly blacked out, contact our Customer Service Department toll free at 866-800-1275 (International Customers call 512-434-1542).
