August 4, 1985 > Tom Seaver of the Chicago White Sox wins his 300th game, defeating the New York Yankees by the score of 4-1 on "Phil Rizzuto Day" at Yankee Stadium. On the same day, Rod Carew of the California Angels enters the 3,000-hit club when he singles against his former team, the Minnesota Twins.
