Young kicks off second half

Right-hander Chris Young will take the mound, hoping to get San Diego off on the right foot as it tries to move toward its second consecutive playoff appearance. The Padres won the National League West last season with an 82-80 mark.
Young is 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA in his career against Atlanta. The right-hander has won five of his last six decisions.
The series with Atlanta opens a six-game homestand for San Diego, with the Phillies making the trek to California for a three-game series, beginning next Tuesday.
