On Wednesday, the Padres and Diamondbacks send their respective staff aces to the mound in the second game of a three-game series.
Jake Peavy will be seeking his fourth victory of the season. He didn't win his fourth game last season until May 28.
Arizona's Brandon Webb is coming off a game that saw him strike out a career-high 13 batters -- and that came at the expense of the Padres on April 19 at PECTO Park -- when Webb allowed one earned run over eight innings.
Pitching matchup
SD: RHP Jake Peavy, 3-0, 2.13
Peavy was hit hard in his last start against the D-backs, but still earned his third victory of the season, allowing four earned runs over 5 1/3 innings with eight strikeouts and two walks. For his career against Arizona, Peavy is 8-8 with a 5.56 ERA in 18 starts.
ARI: RHP Brandon Webb (1-1, 4.00)
It's been a week since Webb last faced the Padres, as he allowed one earned run in eight innings in a earning a no-decision on April 18. Webb struck out a career-high 13 that night. For his career against the Padres, Webb is 3-5 in 15 starts with a 3.78 ERA.
Player to watch
Webb is certainly apt to getting plenty of ground-ball outs with his sinkerball, but Adrian Gonzalez -- who had a home run on Tuesday -- hasn't been fooled too often, hitting .412 with two doubles and a home run.
