PHOENIX -- The Padres are seeing early returns from the trade that sent veteran left-hander Randy Wolf to the Astros.

When Chris Young had to go back on the disabled list for a strained right forearm, it gave the Triple-A pitcher they received in return from the trade, Chad Reineke, a chance for his first big league start.

The 26-year-old seemed to do everything all at once on Saturday, as he picked up his first career win, hit and RBI against the Phillies.

Reineke will continue to try and make a lasting impression on the front office when he squares off against Cy Young front-runner Brandon Webb on Thursday at Chase Field.

Pitching matchup
SD: RHP Chad Reineke (1-0, 5.40 ERA)
In his Major League debut, Reineke found a rhythm after a tough first inning to record his first career win. He finished the game with a line of three runs on five hits with five strikeouts and three walks in five innings. Reineke admitted to being nervous in the beginning of the game but was proud to have contributed to a win. His reward is another start, as Young, who Reineke was brought up from Triple-A Portland to replace, continues to heal from a strained right forearm.

ARI: RHP Brandon Webb (18-4, 2.85 ERA)
Webb leads the Majors in wins and seems to be on his way to his second National League Cy Young Award in three years. His last start was Friday against the Astros at Minute Maid Park, where he allowed just two runs on four hits in eight innings. Webb has won his past five starts and his past seven decisions.

Tidbits
Catcher Josh Bard played a game in nearby Peoria for the Arizona Summer League Padres on Wednesday to rehab his strained triceps. Bard could be activated from the disabled list as soon as Friday. ... Young played catch on Wednesday for the second time since he strained his right forearm last week. Manager Bud Black said he thought Young might need one rehab start before returning from the disabled list. Black didn't have a definite timetable for Young's return. ... The Padres still have not decided on the Triple-A pitcher that will start in place of the departed Greg Maddux on Saturday afternoon in San Francisco. General manager Kevin Towers and Black will discuss the open spot, but in the meantime have developed a list of potential starters, such as Josh Geer, Cesar Ramos and Dirk Hayhurst. Wade LeBlanc, who is 10-8 with a 5.23 ERA in Portland, may be another possibility. LeBlanc would be pitching on full rest.
