PEORIA, Ariz. -- The World Baseball Classic is coming to the Peoria Sports Complex -- well, sort of.

On Wednesday, the San Diego Padres will step away from Cactus League play to face South Korea at 7:05 p.m. PT in an exhibition game.

It's the first game in Arizona for South Korea, which is coming off a 1-0 victory over Japan on Monday in Tokyo that clinched first place in Pool A.

Korea will face the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday at Camelback Ranch in Glendale before heading to San Diego for the second round of games beginning March 15.

Defending World Baseball Classic champion Japan will face the Pool B winner in the second round while Korea takes on the Pool B runner-up at PETCO Park.

Pool B includes Mexico, with Padres Adrian and Edgar Gonzalez and Scott Hairston, Australia, South Africa and Cuba. Cuba is currently 1-0 in Pool B as is Australia while Mexico is 1-1. South Africa was eliminated after going 0-2.

The Padres will send pitcher Kevin Correia to the mound on Wednesday in a game that will be televised live by Channel 4 in San Diego as well as on MLB.TV. Correia is trying to lock down a spot in the starting rotation.
