Reineke sent down to Triple-A
Right-hander struggled through two Cactus appearances
PEORIA, Ariz. -- The Padres continued to whittle down the number of pitchers in camp on Thursday when they outrighted right-hander Chad Reineke to Triple-A Portland.
Reineke, who arrived in Peoria last month with what figured to be an outside chance of making the team, had a 10.80 ERA in two Cactus League appearances. He allowed two earned runs in 1 2/3 innings on four hits.

Reineke, who was slowed this spring by back soreness, was obtained last July from the Houston Astros in the Randy Wolf trade. He was 2-1 with a 5.00 ERA in four games -- three of which were starts.
Reineke might have gotten a better look last September, but missed the final three weeks of the season after suffering from a stress reaction to the top of his right shoulder blade.
Last week, the Padres optioned right-handed pitchers Ernesto Frieri and Wilton Lopez to Double-A San Antonio and assigned right-handed pitchers Mat Latos, Gabe DeHoyos, Will Inman and Oneli Perez and left-hander Nick Schmidt to their Minor League camp.
The Padres now have 39 players on their 40-man roster.
