Angels at the plate: Maicer Izturis hammered a three-run homer to right, his first of the spring. Gary Matthews Jr. ripped a two-run homer to right, his second of the spring, and doubled. Erick Aybar's homer to right was his second of the spring and second in two days. Bobby Wilson doubled and singled. Vladimir Guerrero and Kendry Morales had RBI doubles, Howard Kendrick singled home a run and Bobby Abreu had a sacrifice fly.

Padres at the plate: Adrian Gonzalez went the other way for a two-run homer, his first in 18 Cactus League at-bats. Gonzalez had two homers in 22 World Baseball Classic at-bats for Mexico. Chris Burke doubled and scored on David Eckstein's single.

Angels on the mound: Joe Saunders stretched out to six innings, giving up four earned runs on six hits and a walk while striking out four men. Justin Speier yielded an unearned run in one inning, striking out the side while allowing one hit. Kevin Jepsen worked out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam without yielding a run, striking out one while giving up two hits and a walk.

Padres on the mound: Cha Seung Baek, making his sixth Cactus League start, retired the first six men he faced, striking out three, before a double, infield single and three-run homer by Izturis in the third inning. A six-run fifth inning left Baek with nine earned runs in 4 2/3 innings on nine hits and three walks, with four strikeouts. Projected as the No. 3 starter, Baek has yielded 15 earned runs in his past nine innings. Arturo Lopez pitched a perfect inning of relief, striking out one.

Cactus League records: Angels 19-4-1; Padres 5-16.

Up next: The Angels host the Rockies on Wednesday at 1:05 p.m. PDT. Jered Weaver, making his fourth Cactus League start, is scheduled to take the mound against right-hander Jason Marquis. Getting a late start after early spring shoulder irritation, Weaver had his best effort of the spring against the Diamondbacks in his most recent outing, yielding one earned run on four hits in four innings while striking out three. Jose Arredondo, Jason Bulger and Darren Oliver are scheduled to follow Weaver.

The Padres are back home in Peoria on Wednesday for a game against the Cleveland Indians. Kevin Correia, who appears to have a grip on the No. 3 spot in the starting rotation, gets the start and will likely throw in upwards of 80 pitches against the Indians.
