X-rays are negative for Friars' Hundley

Padres catcher day to day after getting hit on left wrist

06/10/09 10:45 PM ET

LOS ANGELES -- Padres catcher Nick Hundley, who was hit on his left wrist while batting against Dodgers right-hander Chad Billingsley on Tuesday, received some good news Wednesday when X-rays came back negative.

Hundley was struck on the wrist by a 93-mph fastball from Billingsley in the sixth inning in the Padres' 6-4 loss and was removed for backup catcher Henry Blanco.

Hundley had his wrist taped up on Wednesday but was relieved that it wasn't broken.

"It hit me on the outside of the wrist," said Hundley, who is batting .241 with three homers and 11 RBIs in 39 games this season. "But it's feeling a little bit better."

Padres manager Bud Black said after Tuesday's game that team doctors were confident that the wrist wasn't broken and X-rays on Wednesday confirmed their initial diagnosis.

But Hundley was still out of the lineup on Wednesday and is listed as day to day.

"It's still very sore," Black said. "It's probably to the point that I won't play him tonight and hopefully the day off tomorrow will help."

Blanco, who is batting .186 with three homers and six RBIs in 25 games, replaced Hundley in the lineup on Wednesday and batted seventh.
