Friars sign third-rounder, eight others

Club has now agreed to terms with six of first nine Draft picks

06/24/09 9:45 PM ET

SEATTLE -- The Padres have completed another round of signings of players who were selected earlier this month in the First-Year Player Draft.

On Wednesday, the team announced that it has agreed to terms with nine players -- including third-round pick Jerry Sullivan, a right-handed pitcher out of Oral Roberts University.

The Padres have now signed six of their nine picks that were made in the first 10 rounds of the Draft. Overall, the Padres have agreed to terms with 31 of their 50 picks.

Among those who remain unsigned include their No. 1 pick, outfielder Donavan Tate (No. 3 overall), second-round pick Everett Williams, another prep outfielder and fourth-round selection, right-handed high school pitcher Keyvius Sampson.

The signings that were announced on Wednesday included Sullivan, who was 8-3 with a 3.12 ERA in 98 innings last season. Sullivan struck out 116, averaging 10.65 strikeouts per nine innings.

Players who also signed were fifth-round pick, catcher Jason Hagerty from of the University of Miami, seventh-round pick, right-handed pitcher Miles Mikolas from Nova Southeastern University and 10th round pick, left-handed pitcher Ryan Hinson of Clemson University.

Hagerty was in Seattle on Wednesday and took batting practice with the Padres before the start of their game against the Mariners at Safeco Field. He, Mikolas, Hinson and Sullivan will join short-season Eugene on Thursday.
