Gonzalez's Majors-leading streak ends

Slugger sits out Tuesday's game as run ends at 314 games

08/05/09 2:01 AM ET

SAN DIEGO-- First baseman Adrian Gonzalez ended his Major League-leading streak of consecutive appearances, which stood at 314 games, when he did not appear in San Diego's 9-2 loss to Atlanta on Tuesday.

The streak was the longest active run in the big leagues and a franchise record for the Friars.

Gonzalez said the streak held "zero" importance.

"I've never been a guy to look at those kinds of things," Gonzalez said. "Once it was brought up, that's the only time I knew there was any kind of streak. For me, it's just more about being in the game."

Kyle Blanks started in place of Gonzalez at first base for the second consecutive game. Gonzalez made a defensive appearance in the ninth inning on Monday during the Padres' 4-2 win over Atlanta.

"These two days were days that I talked to Buddy about getting off and letting my body heal up after the All-Star Game and [an eight-game road trip]," Gonzalez said. "It kind of cut up on me, so I needed to let my body rest."

Gonzalez said he has no particular aches or pains and anticipates a return to the lineup on Wednesday against the Braves.

"Just heavy legs from those type of trips," Gonzalez said. "... They're tough on you."
