SAN DIEGO -- Padres outfielder Kyle Blanks is day-to-day with soreness in his right heel after injuring it in Saturday's 7-0 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. Manager Bud Black said on Sunday that Blanks is "doing OK, he's sore, but we don't know how this is going to play out." Blanks left the game in the eighth inning after running the bases on the ball Henry Blanco hit one inning earlier. The injury, Black said, was to the plantar fascia, which is the connective tissue which supports the arch of the foot. "It was kind of a shock," Blanks said. "I went to push and there was no push." Blanks said the injury is similar to something he has experienced in the past and that the pain is usually the worst the day after. That wasn't the case on Sunday. "It's something I had in college. It's always kind of been there," he said. "If feels better today, which is surprising. That's a good sign for me." Black said there's a possibility that the Padres might add an outfielder for their upcoming road trip to Atlanta and Miami beginning on Tuesday. The Padres were using four outfielders -- Blanks, Tony Gwynn, Chase Headley and Will Venable -- for three spots. Blanks is hitting .248 this season with nine home runs and 20 RBIs, all coming since he was promoted from Triple-A Portland on June 19.Corey Brock is a reporter for MLB.com.
