Padres remember 9/11 fallen

Ceremony held on tragedy's eighth anniversary

09/11/09 10:40 PM ET

SAN DIEGO -- The Padres honored the men and women who lost their lives during the events of Sept. 11, 2001, with a remembrance ceremony before Friday's game at PETCO Park against the Colorado Rockies.

The Padres and Rockies, along with every other Major League club, wore caps donned with stars and stripes in recognition of the eighth anniversary of the events of Sept. 11. The umpires wore them as well.

The national anthem was sung by internationally renowned Australian group The Ten Tenors. Prior to that, there was a bagpipe rendition of "Amazing Grace."

The Holiday Bowl Big Flag will be displayed by uniformed service members as part of the 9/11 remembrance ceremony.

The Ten Tenors will also perform "God Bless America" in the seventh inning.
