PEORIA, Ariz. -- Short on time and short on words Thursday, second baseman Orlando Hudson offered a succinct appraisal of the sore right groin that forced him from Wednesday's game against the Dodgers.

"Precautionary," Hudson said, before scurrying off to the training room. "... Feeling good."

Hudson certainly didn't feel good Wednesday, when he left the Padres' 3-0 victory after aggravating the right groin strain that caused him to miss seven games earlier this month.

Hudson felt a tug in the same spot after bouncing into a double play against the Dodgers.

According to the team, Hudson is listed as day to day.

The Padres played two games on Thursday with Minor Leaguer Jonathan Galvez starting at second base in the game against the Rockies in Tucson. Everth Cabrera got the start at the same position against the Indians in Peoria.

Depending on how long Hudson is out of action this time, the Padres figure to give additional looks at the position to Cabrera and Andy Parrino, the two players battling for the backup infielder job.

Shoulder soreness keeps Blanks on the shelf

PEORIA, Ariz. -- Left fielder/first baseman Kyle Blanks isn't sure when he'll appear in a Padres game again this spring, as his sore left shoulder continues to keep him sidelined.

Blanks said the soreness wasn't incident specific, though it first started to bother him when he made a handful of warmup throws on a cool, rainy day in Scottsdale last Sunday. From there, it only got worse.

"When I woke up the next day, it was very uncomfortable," Blanks said. "Then the next day [Tuesday] was the same. I don't know what it is but would rather rest it now and keep it to a one-week issue instead of risking it."

Blanks has gone through motion tests to determine the point of impact, specifically the spots on the shoulder where he's feeling pain.

"Right now, I feel like I can swing, but there's still certain things I do on the field that set it off," Blanks said. "Hopefully, it will calm back down."

Blanks is hitting .205 this spring (5-for-24) with one home run and two RBIs.
