SAN DIEGO -- It was toward the end of the 2011 season when Padres third baseman Chase Headley vowed to become more of a run producer in 2012.The Padres, a team starving for offense, would like nothing more than to get a big season offensively from Headley, who is one of eight San Diego players on the National League All-Star ballot. Other Padres players include first baseman Yonder Alonso, second baseman Orlando Hudson, shortstop Jason Bartlett, catcher Nick Hundley and outfielders Cameron Maybin, Will Venable and Carlos Quentin. Headley, who hit only four home runs last season, had two home runs in the first eight games this season. He hasn't sacrificed his discerning eye for the power, as he's ranked among the NL leaders in walks early in the season. Headley has never appeared in a Midsummer Classic. Of the eight Padres on the ballot, only Hudson, Bartlett and Quentin have been in an All-Star Game. Quentin, who is on the disabled list after having knee surgery in March, was 0-for-2 as a representative of the White Sox in the 2011 All-Star Game at Chase Field in Phoenix. Quentin is expected to rejoin the Padres in early May.
