SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Padres today introduced the Hispanic Heritage Comunidad Awards, a series of awards established to recognize and pay tribute to individuals or organizations whose work makes a positive impact on those who live and work in San Diego’s Hispanic community.

“The Hispanic community is an integral part of San Diego and an important part of our organization’s identity,” said Padres Senior Vice President of Public Affairs Sarah Farnsworth. “The inaugural Comunidad Awards give us an opportunity to honor those who strengthen the community through their service and tireless efforts.”

In support of the Padres Foundation’s community vision, three awards will be given throughout the year, one each in the areas of children’s health (LIVE), children’s education (LEARN) and youth baseball/ softball or youth fitness (PLAY).  The recipients will be chosen by the members of the Padres Hispanic Community Leadership Council (HCLC)

“Having served on the Padres’ Hispanic Community Leadership Council since its formation in 2010, I am proud of the role we play as liaisons to the community,” said Jessica Lopez of Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego. “Whether we work for service organizations, or serve them as volunteers, all of the HCLC members have a strong level of community involvement. It’s exciting to inform people about these awards and to be part of the selection process, as well.”
