Padres host Phillies and Nationals for second homestand
Homestand highlighted by Military Opening Day presented by Northrop Grumman
SAN DIEGO - The Padres return home Thursday, April 19 for the second homestand of the 2012 season, which includes four games against the Philadelphia Phillies, followed by a three-game series against the Washington Nationals. The homestand will be highlighted by Military Opening Day presented by Northrop Grumman on Sunday.
Home action begins Thursday, with a 7:05 p.m. start against the Phillies. Prior to the game, kids and representatives from the Jackie Robinson Family YMCA will participate in a pregame ceremony honoring Jackie Robinson, as the club was on the road for Jackie Robinson Day, April 15.
The weekend starts Thursday with Padres College Nights, featuring special ticket discounts for college students with a valid student ID ($9 in advance or $10 on game day in Right Field Upper Reserved College Night section). A DJ from Channel 93.3 will be spinning at the Budweiser Patio in Right Field from 6:00 p.m. until the conclusion of the game. Friday's game will be preceded by a Friday Night Party at Park at the Park, featuring $5 cocktails, $5 beers and food specials from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by a DJ from Fortune Music. Admission is included with a paid ticket to Friday's game.
Before Friday's game, the Padres will honor the Burn Institute and salute local firefighters in a pregame ceremony featuring Mark Kotsay and Micah Owings. Ten-year-old burn survivor Parnika Kant will throw out the Ceremonial First Pitch.
Following the game, fans are invited to stay to enjoy a spectacular Friday Night Fireworks show, set to the music of the Beach Boys, in honor of their 50th anniversary.
The first 25,000 fans in attendance on Saturday will receive a Padres ballcap, presented by FOX Sports San Diego. Saturday is Softball Day at Petco Park. The game will be preceded by a warning track parade of approximately 3,000 local softball players and coaches.
Sunday's series finale against the Phillies marks Military Opening Day presented by Northrop Grumman. Pregame ceremonies for Military Opening Day will include a National Anthem performance by the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing Band, a flyover by two F-18's from "TOPGUN," United States Navy Fighter Weapons School out of Fallon, Nev., and a 50 State Flag team display by 1st Marine Logistics Group. Lt. Gen. Thomas D. Waldhauser, commanding general I Marine Expeditionary Force, will throw out the Ceremonial First Pitch. In addition, the Mission Continues' Bravo Class will take their Fellowship Oath at Petco Park on Sunday, marking the first time that the Fellowship Oath has been taken publicly.
Prior to Sunday home games, fans with tickets are invited to enjoy Breakfast at the Park. Special breakfast menu items will be offered for purchase at Park at the Park. In addition to seating at the Park at the Park, tables may be set up on the warning track, allowing fans to dine on the Petco Park field. Field seating will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, barring batting practice. Select gates will open to Season Ticket Holders with reservations at 10:00 a.m. Gates will open to the general public at 10:30 a.m.
From 11:30 a.m. to noon, Padres pitchers Cory Luebke and Clayton Richard will sign autographs at the Park at the Park for Jr. Padres Sunday Signings. A Junior Padres membership is required to participate in the signing event. Membership is free, and kids can sign up online or in-person on the day of the event.
Beginning at 11:45 a.m., approximately 3,000 PONY Youth Baseball players and coaches will participate in a parade around the warning track, as part of PONY Youth Baseball Day.
Following an off day Monday, the Washington Nationals come to town Tuesday for a three-game series.
On Wednesday, the Padres will host a group of approximately 60 kids, ages 7-13, at the 3:35 p.m. game through STAR/PAL (Sports Training, Academics, Recreation/Police Athletic League). These kids will have participated the day before in a STAR/PAL Padres baseball camp, featuring Kyle Blanks and Ernesto Frieri. The camp will take place at Porter Elementary School in City Heights Tuesday afternoon.

San Diego State Aztecs quarterback and likely 2012 NFL draft pick Ryan Lindley will throw out the Ceremonial First Pitch before Thursday's game.
