LAKELAND, Fla. -- The Tigers finished up the contract dealings for their 40-man roster by reaching one-year deals with Quintin Berry, Casey Crosby, Avisail Garcia, Dixon Machado, Luis Marte, Hernan Perez and Danny Worth.
Saturday was the first day that teams could unilaterally renew contracts with players who hadn't yet agreed to terms. Some players prefer that method in their first few Major League seasons in hopes of supporting their case once they become arbitration-eligible after three years of service time.
In this case, however, none of the final seven players to sign had a full year of service time.
