KANSAS CITY, MO (May 1, 2014) - The Kansas City Royals announce that second baseman Omar Infante is the Royals Majestic Player of the Month for April, while right-handed starter James Shields is the club's Pitcher of the Month. The player award is determined by a combined fan and media vote, with the pitcher award voted on by local media.

Infante entered today leading Major League second basemen with 19 RBI. The total is the highest by any Royals second baseman in March and April, with the previous high 14 by Cookie Rojas (1973) and Bip Roberts (1996).

Shields entered today fourth in the American League in ERA (2.03) and opponents batting average (.196). His 41 strikeouts in March and April rank third all-time in Royals single-season history. Shields has won his last three starts, all on the road, including April 17 at Houston, when he recorded 12 strikeouts.
