Players slated to be big part of Rockies Fest
Q&A sessions, autographs, photos, clinics and games featured at Coors Field
DENVER -- Outfielder Carlos Gonzalez, a two-time All-Star and three-time Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner; third baseman Nolan Arenado, who won a Gold Glove last season as a rookie; and left-handed starting pitcher Brett Anderson, acquired from the Athletics last month, will be among the players appearing Saturday at the 2014 Rockies Fest at Coors Field.
The event offers a chance for all fans to participate in player availability sessions, participation games, baseball instruction and other events. The event is free all day for season-ticket holders, with doors opening at 8:30 a.m. MT. The event is open to the public from 1-4 p.m., with admission being a donation to Rockies Charities -- $25 for fans 13 and older, $1 for fans 3-12 and free for children 2 and under.
Tickets can be purchased online at www.rockies.com.
In addition to Gonzalez, Arenado and Anderson, some of the other players expected to attend are catcher Wilin Rosario, second baseman DJ LeMahieu and pitcher Tyler Chatwood, as well as the two players the Rockies received from the Astros in a trade for outfielder Dexter Fowler -- outfielder Brandon Barnes and right-handed pitcher Jordan Lyles.
Fans may participate in one of several question-and-answer sessions with players, coaches and front-office personnel on the Coors Field Suite level, social media interviews with players, autograph sessions and photo opportunities with players, and, for the younger fans, storybook sessions with players. Players also will join with fans chosen from the audience to participate in "Rockies Family Feud" games.
Additionally for the children, there will be video games, batting-cage sessions, a kids' Wiffle ball game, autograph sessions with team mascot Dinger and carnival and craft games.
Fans can try out for the opportunity to sing the national anthem before a Rockies game. Auditions will be conducted in the auxiliary locker room on the lower level through both Rockies Fest sessions.
The event also will feature self-guided tour access to the home and visiting clubhouses, the Press Club, the broadcast booths and the home dugout, weather permitting.
Aspiring ballplayers also can participate in hitting and pitching clinics with former Rockies standouts Ellis Burks, Brian Fuentes and Brent Mayne.
The Rockies also will be selling a limited number of green and purple stadium seats, which will be available for season-ticket holders starting at 8:30 a.m. and to the public starting at 1 p.m. Prices are $100 per pair, and proceeds will go to Rockies Charities.
