SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego Padres today placed right-handed pitcher Woody Williams on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to May 2) due to a strained left oblique and recalled left-handed pitcher Randy Williams from Triple-A Portland. Executive Vice President/General Manager Kevin Towers made the announcement.

Woody Williams, 38, is 2-2 with a 4.84 ERA (19 ER/35.1 IP) in six starts with the Padres this season. Williams, who was scheduled to start on Friday at Busch Stadium against the St. Louis Cardinals, will be replaced in the rotation by Darrell May.

Over parts of 13 Major League seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays (1993-1998), Cardinals (2001-2004) and Padres (1999-2001 and 2005), Williams has a career record of 105-86 with a 4.07 ERA (795 ER/1758.2 IP) in 344 games (253 starts).

Randy Williams, 29, has appeared in 12 games with the Beavers, going 1-1 with a 6.39 ERA (9 ER/12.2 IP) in 2005. Williams made his Major League debut last season with the Seattle Mariners, going 0-0 with a 5.79 ERA (3 ER/4.2 IP) in six relief appearances.
