The San Diego Padres announced today that they have acquired catcher Dusty Ryan from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for a player to be named or cash considerations. Executive Vice President/General Manager Jed Hoyer made the announcement.

Ryan, 25, appeared in 12 games for the Tigers last year, going 4-for-26 (.154) with one double, one run scored and four RBI. He made his Major League debut with Detroit in 2008 and has hit .257 (18-for-70) with three doubles, two home runs, 11 RBI and seven runs scored in 27 games, including 22 starts behind the plate.

Originally selected by Detroit in the 48th round of the 2003 First-Year Player Draft, Ryan has hit .240 (348-for-1452) with 67 doubles, eight triples, 48 home runs, 203 RBI and 191 runs scored in 444 games over parts of six minor league seasons. He has posted a .331 on-base percentage in the minors while slugging .396.

With today's move, the Padres 40-man roster is now at 38.
