Padres announce new partnership with locally based TaylorMade Golf
TaylorMade's R11 driver unveiled as part of Right Field foul pole at PETCO Park
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The San Diego Padres today announced a new partnership agreement with Carlsbad-based TaylorMade-adidas Golf Company that incorporates TaylorMade's new R11 driver into the design of the Right Field foul pole at PETCO Park. Padres Vice Chairman and CEO Jeff Moorad made the joint announcement with TaylorMade-adidas Golf Company President and CEO Mark King.
The re-designed foul pole will make its debut tonight, as the Padres return home to host the Philadelphia Phillies at 7:05 PT. The shaft and grip of the 80-foot-tall R11 driver run directly parallel to the existing foul pole, while a 14-foot-wide by 8-foot-tall image of the R11's distinctive white head is displayed on the outfield wall. All aspects of the driver's design are in fair territory.
"TaylorMade is a leading national brand - a thought leader based right here in San Diego," said Moorad. "The Padres are proud to partner with yet another strong local company, and we are excited to showcase its presence at PETCO Park in such an innovative way."
The Padres and TaylorMade worked closely with Major League Baseball's baseball operations team to ensure the design and installation of the R11 driver are in accordance with MLB guidelines and in no way distract from, or impede, play.
"The launch of the R11 driver has become larger-than-life for our industry, so we wanted to continue the momentum with a larger-than-life integration with the San Diego Padres," said King. "This idea captures the magnitude of what has been the most historic driver launch in the golf industry. We hope the site of the world's largest R11 driver here at PETCO Park will be a compelling reminder of TaylorMade innovation."
The three-year partnership agreement involves more than an integrated marketing promotion. The R11 driver foul pole will also serve as a visible symbol of the Padres' and TaylorMade's joint commitment to the community. For every "drive" a Padres player sends over the fence for a homerun, TaylorMade Golf Company will donate $600 to a local charity.
The partnership with TaylorMade is the latest result of the Padres' efforts to increase the presence and visibility of local companies in the ballpark. Already this season, the Padres have added new local partners Frazee Paint, Torrey Pines Bank and Filippi's Pizza Grotto to a roster of previously established local partners including PETCO, Sycuan, Jack-in-the-Box, San Diego County Credit Union and more.
