Diamondbacks at the plate: Jeff Salazar -- playing his first game with the team since being picked up from the Rockies -- reached base three times and drove in four. Brian Barden tried to make his case for a roster spot with three hits and three RBIs. Scott Hairston was ejected in the first for arguing balls and strikes.

Padres at the plate: Geoff Blum and Rob Bowen hit back-to-back homers in the second. Khalil Greene had two more hits to raise his spring average to .446. Oscar Robles also had two hits.

Diamondbacks on the mound: Edgar Gonzalez, who will open the regular season as the fourth starter, allowed five runs on eight hits in four innings. Brandon Lyon and Brandon Medders each worked a scoreless inning. Juan Cruz gave up three unearned runs in his inning of work.

Padres on the mound: Chris Young was scheduled to throw about 50 pitches as a final tuneup before the regular season, and he allowed five unearned runs in 2 2/3 innings, walking three and striking out four. Scott Linebrink and Heath Bell both worked perfect frames. Linebrink has not allowed a run in eight of his 10 spring outings, and Bell has allowed just two earned runs in 12 innings of work.

Cactus League records: Diamondbacks 19-12; Padres 17-13-2.

Up next: The Diamondbacks close out Spring Training 2007 with a game against the Padres at Chase Field on Saturday afternoon.
