Surgery expected to end Moseley's season

SAN DIEGO -- Padres pitcher Dustin Moseley will undergo surgery Wednesday on his left shoulder.

Moseley will have the procedure, which is expected to be season-ending, at Scripps Clinic in Carmel Valley.

Moseley dislocated his shoulder in his last start on a base hit to right field, but he promptly popped it back into place. Moseley had dislocated that shoulder previously this season, and while he insisted it didn't affect his throwing motion, it hampers his ability to field and hit.

Though Moseley said he was getting better each day, the Padres were concerned with the longevity of his shoulder if they were to keep dealing with an occasional dislocation.

Moseley was 3-10 this season with a 3.30 ERA. The Padres have some time to discuss who will fill Moseley's spot in the rotation, as the team's off-day on Thursday allows them to run a four-man rotation this week.
