Blanks gets stitches, but OK after wall crash

SAN FRANCISCO -- Left fielder Kyle Blanks left Sunday's 5-0 loss to the Giants in the sixth inning after he made a running catch of a Joaquin Arias fly ball that resulted in him running headlong into the left-field wall at AT&T Park.
Blanks was initially dazed and stayed on the ground for a minute. He left the game and had four stitches put in his left eyelid, the result of his sunglasses cutting him upon him hitting the wall.
"I ran for a ball, caught it and smashed into the wall," Blanks said when asked to recall the sequence that ended his day. "My sunglasses gave it a pretty good slice. I was happy I hung onto it."
First baseman Jesus Guzman moved from first base to left field and Yonder Alonso entered the game at first base after Blanks left.
"He's a little banged up, jarred," said Padres manager Bud Black. "But he's going to be fine. He made a great catch."
Blanks tracked the Arias ball all the way off the bat but didn't account for where he was in relation to the wall.
"As I'm about to catch it, I think I'm running out of space," he said.
