Padres recall RHP Miles Mikolas from Triple-A Tucson and option RHP Tyson Ross to Tucson

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Padres today announced they have recalled right-handed pitcher Miles Mikolas from Triple-A Tucson and have optioned right-handed pitcher Tyson Ross to the same Tucson club. Executive Vice President/General Manager Josh Byrnes made the announcement.

Mikolas, 24, is making his second stint with the Padres this season and will be available for the Padres 7:10 pm PT game against the Colorado Rockies at Petco Park tonight. The Jupiter, Florida native was previously recalled by the Padres on June 23 but did not appear in a game before being optioned back to Tucson the following day. In 39 games for Tucson this year, he has gone 2-1 with 20 saves, a 3.14 ERA (15 ER, 43.0 IP) and 26 strikeouts against 12 walks The right-hander made his Major League debut for the Padres last season, going 2-1 with a 3.62 ERA (13 ER, 32.1 IP) and 23 strikeouts against 15 walks in 25 relief appearances. Mikolas was originally selected by the Padres in the seventh-round of the 2009 draft out of Nova Southeastern University (FL).

Ross, 26, has appeared in 22 games for the Padres this season, including three starts, and has posted a 0-3 record with a 3.60 ERA (18 ER, 45.0 IP). The right-hander was acquired this past offseason in a four-player trade with the Oakland Athletics. Over parts of four Major League seasons with the Athletics (2010-12) and Padres (2013) he has gone 6-22 with a 4.93 ERA (106 ER, 193.2 IP) with 136 strikeouts against 91 walks in 75 games, 24 starts.
