The Padres return home on Labor Day for the 11th homestand of the season, featuring three games against the San Francisco Giants followed by a weekend series against the Colorado Rockies. Highlights of the homestand include the welcoming of recent Medal of Honor Recipient Staff Sgt. Ty Carter to Petco Park, as well as the second Beerfest event of the season, and a celebration of the U.S. Champion Eastlake All-Stars Little League team.
Home action begins today, with a 12:40 p.m. start against the Giants. Bring your appetite, because today marks $1 Hot Dog Day, with hot dogs being sold for $1 at fixed concessions stands around the ballpark.
Prior to the game, the Padres will honor Stand Up To Cancer, the Padres Foundation's featured homestand charity partner. In partnership with Scripps Health, the Padres Foundation will present SU2C with a $5,000 donation.
Today's Ceremonial First Pitch will be thrown by Army Staff Sgt. Ty Carter. Last Monday, August 26, Staff Sgt. Carter was awarded the nation's highest military award, the Medal of Honor, by President Obama during a ceremony at the White House. He was bestowed the Medal of Honor for his courageous actions while deployed to the Nuristan Province, Afghanistan, in October 2009. He was a cavalry scout assigned to 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, out of Fort Carson, Colo., during his first of two deployments to Afghanistan.

The Annual Heart and Hustle Award recognizes one player on each Major League team who demonstrates a passion for the game of baseball and best embodies the values, spirit and traditions of the game. The award is a departure from the standard recognition of pure on-field performance and instead recognizes the intangible values of a true team player and leader. Of the 30 winners from each Major League team, one player will be chosen as the final Heart and Hustle Award recipient, as voted on by the more than 6,000 members of the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association.
The first 25,000 fans in attendance on Saturday will receive a Padres Luchador Mask.
Prior to Saturday's game, the Padres will celebrate the accomplishments of the U.S. Champion Eastlake All-Star Little League team, which just returned from Williamsport, Penn., after finishing in second place at the Little League World Series. The Padres are proud to host players, coaches and families from Eastlake All-Stars at Saturday's game. In addition to recognition during the pregame ceremony, the players will have the opportunity to meet Padres players and take batting practice on the Major League field.
The homestand wraps up Sunday with CA National Guard Appreciation Day, presented by USAA. As part of the pregame ceremony, a number of CA National Guard recruits will take the Oath of Enlistment on the field. The National Anthem will be performed by the CA Army National Guard's 40th Infantry Division Brass Band, and American Idol Season 10 winner Scotty McCreery will sing God Bless America during the seventh inning break. McCreery will also present a donation to the San Diego Hall of Champions in support of the Padres' Jr. RBI program prior to the game.
