The Astros enter the final month of the regular season during the upcoming homestand as they host the Seattle Mariners (Aug. 31-Sept. 2) and the Minnesota Twins (Sept. 4-6). The series against the Seattle Mariners kicks off a month featuring 24 divisional matchups in a tight AL West title race. The Astros have been spectacular at home this season, especially of late. During the last homestand, Houston went 7-3 with four walk-off wins, a no-hitter by RHP Mike Fiers and a sweep of Zack Grienke, Clayton Kershaw and the NL West-leading Dodgers. The Astros are now 45-21 at home, which is the best home record in the AL.
Major League Baseball announced this afternoon that Houston Astros right-handed pitcher Mike Fiers has been named the American League Player of the Week for the week of Aug. 17-23. This marks Fiers' first career Player of the Week award.
The Astros will honor Hall of Famer Craig Biggio with a special pregame ceremony prior to tonight's 6:10 p.m. game vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers at Minute Maid Park. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 5:25 p.m.
The Houston Astros RBI Junior Baseball, Senior Baseball and Softball teams have advanced to the 2015 MLB RBI World Series, taking place in Arlington/Grapevine, TX on Aug. 4 through 15. Houston has a team in each division in the 2015 RBI World Series, the most-ever for any city in RBI World Series history.
The Houston Astros Player Development Department has named July's Minor League Pitchers and Players of the Month at each of their minor league affiliates. These awards are chosen every month by the field staff of each team.
