P

Parking
Construction of Citi Field continues in the main parking lot (Lot B) of Shea Stadium (between the scoreboard and 126th Street). The new ballpark, a state-of-the-art facility built for your entertainment and comfort, will be completed in time for Opening Day 2009.

The construction work in the interim will significantly reduce the number of parking spaces in Lot B, affecting parking and traffic patterns around Shea Stadium.

With limited parking, we urge you to take mass transit to and from Shea Stadium on game days. The MTA and the LIRR have agreed to expand service on the #7 subway and the Port Washington branch of the LIRR (which both stop at Shea Stadium).

Should you choose to drive, mets.com will have the latest information on recommended Park-and-Ride locations along the #7 subway and the LIRR, as well as interim parking areas. When arriving at Shea Stadium, follow signs and traffic personnel directing you to designated stadium sites. You should plan to arrive early.

We are working diligently with numerous City agencies to minimize construction-related inconveniences and ask for your patience during the ballpark construction period.

Shea Stadium Scoreboards
In 2006, the New York Mets debuted four new full-color LED (light emitting diode) displays at Shea Stadium, including an upgraded video board, two new ribbon boards on the press level fascia, and a color message center above the ticket windows between Gates D and E.

The Diamond Vision video board in left-center field was replaced by a high-definition LED board manufactured by Mitsubishi Diamond Vision. The new display offers HDTV compatibility thanks to a 360% increase in horizontal resolution, from 310 x 174 pixels to 1,120 x 640 pixels. The new Diamond Vision is the same height as the old board, at 26 feet 3 inches, but has been widened from 35 to 46 feet, to provide a 16:9 aspect ratio. This is the third generation Mitsubishi Diamond Vision video board installed at Shea. The first board was installed in 1982, and that original board was replaced with a higher resolution CRT (cathode ray tube) board prior to the 1992 season.

For 2006, Whiteway Sign Company of Chicago, IL added two new ribbon boards and an exterior message board to the state-of-the-art LED scoreboard system that was installed in 2004. The new Whiteway boards utilize full-color 25mm pixel pitch LEDs capable of displaying high resolution video clips, photographs, logos, animations, and text. Each ribbon board is 160 feet wide by 4 feet high, with a resolution of 1936 x 40 pixels. The exterior message board is 24 feet wide by 8 feet high, with a resolution of 288 x 96 pixels.

The Mets LED scoreboard system, consisting of the main scoreboard in right field and two smaller auxiliary scoreboards down the left and right field lines, was installed prior to the 2004 season. It replaced an older light bulb display system that had been in place since 1987. Utilizing Whiteway 34mm LED technology, it provided increased brightness for daylight viewing and a 244% increase in resolution. One important feature that did not change was the board's ability to provide a constant display of all out-of-town game scores from both leagues. The main message board is 20 feet high by 63 feet wide, and contains 492,800 LEDs arranged into 98,560 pixels. The two auxiliary scoreboard displays measure 43 feet wide by 8 feet high, and each contain 122,880 LEDs arranged into 24,576 pixels.

The video and scoreboard displays at Shea Stadium are operated by the Mets Video & Entertainment staff, led by Producer Vito Vitiello. The New York Mets organization is a member of IDEA, the Information Display & Entertainment Association, and has won several IDEA Golden Matrix Awards for excellence in video and scoreboard programming.

Smoking Policy
During the final year at Shea Stadium in 2008, smoking is prohibited. The 2008 smoking prohibition will encompass all areas within Shea, including the ramps. Anyone violating this prohibition will be subject to ejection.

To accommodate fans who wish to smoke at Mets home games at Shea Stadium, smoking will be restricted to a designated area outdoors near Gate C. Fans with a ticket stub will be able to re-enter the stadium.

Secondhand smoke is a known health hazard and irritant for nearby non-smokers. The American Lung Association cites that there is no safe level of exposure to secondhand smoke. Now, all Mets fans will be able to cheer for the Mets at Shea without being exposed to the dangers of secondhand smoke.

The Mets will continue to provide fans a smoke-free environment when they move into Citi Field, their new world class home, in 2009.
