44 San Diego County District Teachers of the Year were honored as part of a pregame ceremony and each received a book bag and gift card to Donovan's. New Backpack & Flash Drive
The Padres and Promises2Kids invite you to join the campaign to collect backpacks and flash drives for the 2009-2010 school year. Donations will be collected on
August 19 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Promises2Kids volunteers will staff large collection bins near all San Diego Padres PETCO Park entrance gates to benefit the thousands of foster children, who were once victims of abuse, return to school this fall with school supplies that will help them succeed in the classroom. The donations of backpacks and flash drives are essential in providing each child with a system to keep all of their schoolwork and computer assignments organized. On average, a foster child will live in at least seven different homes before they turn 18 years old, and these donated items will be key in helping them stay on top of their work throughout the school year.
Dominican Republic
As an extension of the club's $8.3 million investment in a state-of-the-art baseball facility in the Dominican Republic, the Padres have established a visible presence in improving the schools and educational opportunities for children in the nearby town of Najayo, with other academic and health initiatives being planned for implementation.
