Celebrating 40 Years of Padres Memories

As part of the team's 40th Anniversary celebration, the Padres are asking you, the Friar Faithful, to share your favorite Padres memory over the last 40 seasons. Whether it's an on-the-field classic like the 1984 postseason comeback against the Cubs or an off-the-field memory like meeting Adrian Gonzalez before the game, we want to hear your favorite.

Read the winning contest submissions » You can still submit your memory for a chance at one of the upcoming prize packs.

"Since I began my career in San Diego directly out of the University of Minnesota, June 1973, everything I did at the Major League level was imprinted in my mind, because I was either doing it or seeing it for the very first time. My first hit, first HR, first time meeting the all time greats like Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, etc. But, the 1978 All Star Game introduction in San Diego takes the cake. After 5 years of hard work improving my skills on the field, and with my record of giving to the community through my recently established Winfield Foundation, that moment made everything worthwhile. The fans in San Diego and around the country took notice of our players and our town that day, and I'll always remember that moment."
  - Dave Winfield

"My favorite Padre memory would be watching the 98' team go through the playoffs beating Houston and then the Braves to go to the World Series. It is the only time I have been able to watch this team win in the playoffs. Being a Padre fan my entire life, it's a great feeling to see the home team be a winner."
  - Adrian Gonzalez

"Without question, my greatest Padres moment was just after Trevor Hoffman's 500th save, when we beat the Dodgers at home, and all his teammates lifted him on our shoulders. To be part of that and help carry him off the field was incredible."
  - Heath Bell

My most memorable moment was being part of the team when Tony Gwynn and Will Clark battled until the last day of the 1989 season, fighting for the National League batting title. I can remember how electric the ballpark was that final day when Tony got three hits and beat Will by three points.
